1. MTIPS Theme

There will always be “reasons” for you to not have that which you want.
“I’m too old”. “I don’t have the education.” “I don’t have the money.” “I
don’t have the time.” …When, instead, you operate from your commitment,
none of the obstacles, reasons and excuses matter. The only thing that
matters is your commitment and through it, getting exactly what you want!

3. MTIPS Development

“I didn’t have time to practice.” As a music teacher, how many times have
you heard that statement?
I’m certain, that if I had a quarter for each time in my career that I have
heard a student say that, I would have accumulated enough of money to have
gone on several nice vacations with my family!

To me, the statement has a deeper, more hidden message. It tells me that the
student operates from his circumstances, not his commitment. This is a
student who does not yet understand that he is responsible for his own life;
that he can accomplish ANYTHING to which he is willing to commit.

So, I broke the “time issue” down for him…

In one week you have 10,080 minutes. If you subtract 8 hours of sleep a day
(3360 minutes a week), 7 hours of school for 5 days a week (2100 minutes),
2 hours a day for eating (840 minutes a week), 2 hour a day for playing with
friends (840 minutes a week), 3 hours of homework a day (900 minutes a
week), 1 hour a day for television (420 minutes per week), 1 hour a day for
free time (420 minutes a week – although this usually becomes more
television time!), you are still left with 1200 minutes per week for practicing
your instrument! If you practice just 1 hour a day (420 minutes a week) you
still have 780 minutes, or 13 hours per week to do anything you want!!!

Needless to say, the student got the message that he did have the time, but
chose to not use it to benefit his pianistic development.

There will always be “reasons” for you to not have that which you want.
“I’m too old”. “I don’t have the education.” “I don’t have the money.” “I
don’t have the time.” Yet, I am certain you can easily name many people
whom you either know personally or have heard about who have “beaten the
odds.”

It’s easy to beat the odds when you get the difference between operating
from your circumstances versus operating from your commitment. When
you operate from your circumstances, life will give you all the obstacles,
reasons and excuses to not accomplish that which you say you want. When,
instead, you operate from your commitment, none of the obstacles, reasons
and excuses matter. The only thing that matters is your commitment and
through it, getting exactly what you want!

4. Notable Quotable

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I
would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used
everything you gave me'
