2. Test Your Vocal
Knowledge
1. The most important
muscle that facilitates proper breathing is the
____________.
2. Upon inhaling, your
abdominal muscles should move inward or outward?
3. Another name for
your vocal cords is vocal _________.

3. VIP Q & A
Q: I was always told to
open my mouth really wide when I sing. Why?
A: The larger the
opening of the mouth, the greater chance of your voice
sounding bigger because you're allowing more sound to
come out. What's more important however, is that the
back of your throat is open. Never open your mouth so
wide that you feel pressure in your mandibular joint
(jaw). This is unnatural. Just think of being on the
verge of an average yawn.

4. Vocal Tip
To avoid any stress on
your vocalcords, speak and sing with a slight yawn in
the back of your throat, always! (If your speech is
audibly altered, you are yawning too much.)
