3. VIP Q & A
Q: I am a 13 year-old male and my voice is changing! The
sound of my voice is really annoying right now! What's
the best advice you can give to help me deal with this
situation?
A: I can totally understand how you can be annoyed right
now! When a male voice changes, sometimes you have
absolutely no control over the sounds that come out of
your mouth! My best advice to you is to keep working the
upper range of your voice. Mother Nature is pulling your
voice down so counteract that by continuing to exercise
your upper range. If you are currently working with a
vocal coach, make sure he/she has experience in how to
train the changing male voice. Keep extra hydrated and
keep your throat moist to avoid excess cracking. Also,
if you get frustrated, keep your practice sessions short
or take a break. Remember, though the duration of this
process varies for each individual, it will pass. So be
patient and stay positive. Once your voice finishes
dropping, you can then focus on building your vocal
skills with your new, mature voice.

4. Vocal Tip
Middle and High School Students: It's a new year full of
new opportunities in your school! Let this year be the
year you audition for the school musical. Let this year
be the year you try out for that solo in chorus. If you
set this goal for yourself now, you will have plenty of
time to prepare. Focus on what you want, not what you
fear and GO FOR IT!!!

"When a vision begins to form, everything changes,
including the air around me. I seem no longer to be in
