Knowledge
1. The nasopharynx,
oropharynx and hypopharynx are the three divisions of
the ____________.
2. As you stand, should
your knees be locked in place or slightly bent while you
are speaking and/or singing?
3. True or False:
Singing nasal is wrong.

3. VIP Q & A
Q: How can I sound like
my favorite singer?
A: Listen, listen,
listen! Remember, music is a listening art not a visual
one! As you listen, study every aspect of this singer's
voice. Realize that perfect replication is not possible.
Everyone's voice is completely unique. However, once you
discover what you find so interesting in this singer's
voice, you can begin to work on specific techniques to
accomplish the same skills with your own voice. Some of
these techniques will be discussed in future
newsletters. Until then, keep listening!!!

4. Vocal Tip
Drinking cold liquids
contricts your vocal cords. While speaking and/or
singing, opt for warm, non-dairy liquids to keep you
throat moist. My favorite when performing ...room
temperature seltzer with a twist of lemon. The bubbles
from the carbonation help break down any excess mucus.
If seltzer is unavailable or if you tend to get the
hiccups, warm water with lemon is good runner-up!

5. Notable Quotables
"I've always
said singing was very simple. Everybody tries to make
it seem more complicated than it is, and that is
terrible. Singing is basically breathing, supporting
and projecting. It's that simple." -Joan
Sutherland
"There is no
failure except in no longer trying." -Elbert
Hubbard
